Working on Christmas? Oh, the horrors.
Introverts might use work as the perfect excuse to avoid family gatherings. But introverts or not, we all want our fair share of holidays, don’t we? I know, we’ve all been there. I know your frustrations, but allow us to share some fun tips, WFH or not, that you might be interested in.
How to Survive Working on Christmas Holiday
The Bright Side
- (Almost) Empty streets
If you spend every morning commuting to work and having to deal with busy roads, the holiday season should be easier on your sanity.
- Show-off
You’re definitely entitled to some time off after the Christmas break, so use it to your advantage. Enjoy less crowded holiday destinations and post some travel photos on Instagram for everyone else to see while they’re moaning about post-holiday blues. Ha!
- No annoying family gatherings
No rude aunts commenting on your weight, no kids running around and screaming while accidentally spilling eggnog on your new holiday sweater, no annoying siblings or cousins boasting about their new shiny BMW or promotion at work… ah, the peace.
- You get to save up
In addition to #3, you get to save on buying Christmas presents for everyone you know of. Buying gifts? In this economy? You’re being a saint working on holidays and not even attending any gatherings! Buying gifts is nonsense.
- Extra Pay
Christmas means holiday, and working on holidays could mean extra pay. Sweet.
The Do’s and Don’ts
- Social media
Checking your social media on Christmas will only make you bitter when you see posts of everyone enjoying their holidays. Just don’t.
- Throw a party at work
Gather your colleagues who share the same luck of having to work during Christmas and organize a simple Christmas celebration at work. You guys deserve some festivity too! Decorate the office, bring food, play Christmas carols, and exchange gifts to make it less boring.
- Game time
It’s game time! Make work a fun game on Christmas. You and your colleagues can compete to finish work as early as possible, and whoever finishes last should treat the rest to a few drinks after work. Now if that isn’t a motivation!
- Share the fun with those around you
Being generous doesn’t hurt, it’s advisable in fact. Those stray cats and dogs you always meet on your commute back home? Go grab some canned pet food at the minimarket. Friendly office security who always greets you every morning? You can order an extra cup of coffee for them at the cafe you frequent before going to work.
- Hire Virtary
Please allow me to pencil in some shameless promotion here. If you still don’t feel like working over the Christmas holidays, you can always contact Virtary and hire our virtual assistants. Hey, we’re always ready to serve you 24/7, holidays or not.
All in all, it can’t be that bad working on Christmas. Look on the bright side!
And finally, have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! Stay safe and cheers to us for surviving another pandemic year.
