iPad Apps for Virtual Assistant – Review

If you are working as a virtual assistant, the remarkable Apple table device called iPad could diminish your workload by giving you an easy and practical way to stay organized, even when you’re mobile.

I have tried some apps downloaded from App Store- both free and paid (no, my iPad isn’t jail-broken :D), here I would like to give some reviews of iPad apps that might be great to support our job as a virtual assistant.

  • Elance app
Cost: Free
Requirement: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later
This universal app is actually a simple form of Elance website where we can access our working room, get notified for every events, send and reply messages, checking out bid statuses. Basically it’s a mobile version of our Elance admin panel – MINUS- tracker.
This app helps a lot when you’re in mobile and in a rush while accessing Elance website by using mobile phone will get you a headache.
Anyway, Elance has already built a great system where each posted message on working room will be delivered to our email where we can just reply the message  by clicking reply button, whether we’re web based or on mobile phone. So, if we use Elance app just to reply client’s message, there won’t be much different. Just use-less. Many times I found that replying through mobile email is faster.
Perhaps Elance could add more features that really can benefit us as a freelancer? Let’s see..
What I am waiting for is a mobile tracker feature which isn’t available on the app. If Elance could provide that, THAT should be greater ! (we might be able to work and track our time while we’re on the car, LOL)

  • Odesk App
Cost: Free
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later
Nearly no different than Elance. The only thing is that we can access our team room (if we have a team on Odesk) and go chatting with the team. But, I tried this feature and never WORKED!
But, there’s one additional point, Odesk app helps a lot to reply and send message easily while we’re mobile. Since Odesk doesn’t have email direct reply feature, it can save our time to just open the app then reply the message compared than having to access Odesk website by using mobile phone  One thing about Odesk website, it’s funny that we can get client’s message on our email but we can’t reply directly. Instead of clicking reply tab, we must click the link that will direct us to Odesk website version (Seems like it’s loading forever when you’re on mobile device)

  • Paymo.Biz
Cost: Free — full access will need subscription of Paymo.Biz web based service.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later
I do have Paymo biz account and I tried using their service. Web-based app is awesome and very simple to use.
This app should be better. Many times it crashed in time logging, and kept hang for minutes.
I have never been able to create invoice either, I don’t know what’s wrong.
Hope that Paymo Biz will consider to update and fix all the bugs.
Actually, if it works well, Paymo Biz app will become my first choice of mobile time tracking and management app.
